I DARE you. To post ridiculous selfies.

I’ve mentioned before that on the back of the craziness of NaNoWriMo (to write 50,000 words in the month of November) I decided to have a crack at #DAREcember (a style dare for each day in December).

This month long dare is the lovely brainchild of the incredible Andrea at Fox in Flats. With a tagline of “Navigating Motherhood in Style” for Fox in Flats I knew this was going to be a stretch for me.   I am a lot of things, and stylish, is not one of them.
And now that I’ve thought that, my mind is full of other (good) things that I am not. That’ll do mind, that’ll do.

I signed on, because I found something both grounding and liberating in the daily challenge of NaNoWriMo (I broke it into a daily writing challenge and somehow made it to the finish line).  There was something in the distraction of the daily challenge that sweetened my every day life.  I thought to myself what a great idea for December.  To be connected in with a bit of fun every day in a month classically full of overwhelm, from crazy pre-holiday work, shopping, present wrapping, food preparation, and lots of driving around.  You know.  December!

Because I played along on FB and twitter, it also meant that I bombed those spaces with my pictures for each challenge.  Something I didn’t realise, although it’s really pretty freaking obvious, is that to participate in a style dare each day and share the outcome means 31 CONSECUTIVE SELFIES.

That was probably the much greater challenge for me, than the style dares themselves.  The style dares themselves were so much fun, and strangely the more unusual the thing I was trying, the more compliments I got during the day.  Note to self.  Be more BRAVE.  It works.

So, to capture my “win” (no one said anything about winning, but I’m going to call it a win, because, well, I can) for DAREcember, I present to you, the 31 ridiculous selfies of December 2012.

I am no photographer, and no model.  But still, had so much fun.

I wonder if, by midnight tonight, I will be on the wagon of another daily challenge.

The power of the every day decision continues to amaze me.  I wonder if you could twist and tweak your every day, and see where that might lead you.  You’d probably be surprised!

      Thanks Rod,
I was surprised how much fun this really was. And just yesterday Sabrina was mucking around in the bathroom fussing with her hair for her “challenge”.
      I thought that was great.

I’ve always said I’m not creative, but maybe it’s in there and I’m finally letting it out.

Were you in court the day you wore the peacock feather earrings? I say too, the pink lipstick made your lips look awesome!! Perfect shape!!

    • Kathryn Hodges says:

      Amanda,
No the peacock earrings did not make it to Court.
They were pretty out there! And yet why not?

I think that you look beautiful in every photo except for the pigtails one in which you looked slightly mental but cute 🙂 You deserve to look at yourself differently and celebrate the gorgeous things about yourself instead of dwelling on easily accumulated pile of negatives. That rainbow dress? Amazing x

    • Kathryn Hodges says:

Why thank you x and the rainbow dress was an amazing gift from Dean for Christmas! Great choice 🙂
Isn’t it interesting to learn to see things differently.
Drop the story. Be with what is.
