So many of us yearn for a life filled with Passion & Purpose.
People often go looking for their Passion & their Purpose in their work. And specifically, their paid work.
After all, 40 hours a week, 48 weeks a year, for anywhere between 20 and 40 years of unfulfilling work has to surely have at least the potential to slowly kill you from the inside out.
I recently watched an interview that touched on this very thing. The amazingly awesome Mrs Woog (an amazing blogger who blogs about her absolute un-mundane life) had a cuppa with Therese Rein (yes, the wife of Kevin Rudd) and posted the interview over at the Hoopla.
If I was a cool blogger, I would know how to embed the video, but gah, you’ll just have to click here if you want to watch it.
Anyway, I hit play on this interview when I was at work. Obviously I was doing some portion of my work that wasn’t hitting my purpose and passion spot at that precise time.
Therese Rein (if you didn’t already know) has a company that helps people find work, particularly the long term unemployed, and Therese was describing this work as her passion.
Their chat was bobbing along quietly in the background while I went about my business. And then I heard something. Something that absolutely gripped me. I literally stopped what I was doing, grabbed a pen & scribbled down these words:
Therese Rein was talking about her passion and her work, and about what her company goes looking for to help their clients.
I remembered thinking to myself “this is it”.
This combination could just be the magic key to help people to unlock more passion, more purpose and more joy in their lives. The three questions that captivated me were:
1. What are you fascinated by?
2. What are your strengths?
3. What do you care about in the world?
I couldn’t stop thinking about those 3 questions. Imagine the magic and amazing opportunities found in the sweet spot that incorporates all 3 things.
Maybe you could spend some time with those questions, and see what unfolds.
I’m definitely working on them myself, and all I can say is …
